House progressives reacted to leaked internal Democratic emails saying that they have no intention of abandoning their agenda of increasing Medicare for All, deregulating the environment, and expanding benefits to millions of Americans.
These progressives in the House are still holding firm to their promises of massive social change, as a leaked Democratic campaign email shared among House Democrats showed – and they say the American people are getting a sneak peek into Democratic internal divisions.
The document, which was obtained by The Daily Caller, discusses strategies for breaking down opposition to the Democratic agenda and how the party should handle its various divisions.
Republicans are rightly accusing House Democrats of taking Social Security hostage in order to fund Obamacare, after one of the leaked memos outlined how they should negotiate with Republicans to boost the federal retirement age to 70.
The document suggests: “If the House and Senate are able to draft a bipartisan budget bill with the President’s support, then Democrats can pass it under fast-track” legislation and “consider staying on the rails” as Republicans have held steady on Medicare, Social Security, the National Flood Insurance Program, Veterans Affairs, and other entitlements.
While Democrats say they need to work with Republicans on Social Security, conservatives claim the leak shows that House progressives are willing to see government end up on the hook for the remaining entitlement programs and force seniors to pay the price.
The memo states that top House Democrats are interested in supporting policies that would leave taxpayers out of the equation. The document also recommends defending Obamacare, and that Democrats should set “the table” for reviving a “comprehensive infrastructure package” that they say would alleviate the fear of “economic catastrophe” that many people suffer due to out-of-control government spending.
The document compares the House strategy to a Sunday School lesson and declares that Democratic members “should work to develop trusty club members” who will be at the “forefront of the fight.” It also advises Democrats to try to distance themselves from “extreme” Democrats who disagree with key party priorities.
