After several weeks of debate and debate as to why the Discovery Channel is getting rid of a number of series, WarnerMedia has made the move.

The Warner Bros. television channel is no longer picking up the shows – the so-called “unfinished” shows – the channel dropped for “cost saving” reasons. These programmes will be available on Netflix, HBO GO and through the Warner Bros.’ streaming service All Access, which launched last week.

“It’s been an extremely difficult decision to make. It’s one we’ve agonised over for a long time,” Warner Bros. chief creative officer David Zaslav said.

“We’ve worked very hard to reduce the number of series we’ve picked up that weren’t performing to our standards in terms of content and value – all of which we believe will contribute to WarnerMedia’s overall growth.”

Zaslav continued: “However, from the outset the decision was about making the right choices to deliver strong content to audiences – and a number would have missed out on this opportunity.”

The Warner Bros. TV network was already the first to drop unlicensed series from its schedule after Fox’s announcement in May that it would pull the plug on several untitled series, in an attempt to attract content from smaller studios.
