A day after Gabby Peppito got engaged to a male escort from Reddit, the bride-to-be is flooded with engagement gifts, from her fiancé’s former employers
Gabby Petito and her now-fiancé Brian Laundrie got engaged on Wednesday, according to a local Virginia news station. The Reddit employee got down on one knee while the employee of the hairdresser Light to Light was browsing her account.
The woman gasped, then accepted the proposal. According to the Laundry’s Reddit profile, he has worked as a hairstylist in a salon in South Hadley, Massachusetts. The Cut reported that they work together at Reddit, at which time Laundrie also claimed to have had a successful haircutting career.
“Y’all are gonna see it all on the news,” Petito said, according to WUSA9.
Her fiancé has lived as a man for some time, she said, as his whole family knows.
Gabby, as she’s sometimes called on social media, and Laundrie certainly find the Reddit thread or two:
Me seeing the news that my fiancé lives as a man and goes by the name kingbahedry all the time just reminded me to post all my Reddit threads… can i… hereeezaworld pic.twitter.com/i6zMjlpP38 — Gabby Petito (@loseiggy) May 9, 2018
The comments were predictably gory
Brian Laundry is selling things on the down low: he works at reddit.
This is something people definitely don’t talk about that much: for better or worse, most Redditors are not out there in the real world. Why then do a subreddit dedicated to discussing online dicks decide to behave like they might be in a closet? — Billy (@samm_the_dagger) May 9, 2018
Other posts, though, were a little more lighthearted.
Should he be referred to as Zayn soon?
Laundry is a director of farm policy at Reddit – they have also hired a former world champion trampoline athlete, a woman, named a “loverboy”.
People were somewhat surprised Petito took the plunge
Two weeks ago, Petito added a five-minute video to her account – in which she was laughing and looking glum, and in which her mother asked her: “You think this is a joke?”
This video ends the first question: and next page will teach you everything you need to know about this relationship
Since Laundry came out two years ago, Redditors have been coming out to the public, and I suspect they don’t want to remain a secret much longer. Petito’s employer is not saying if Laundry is still employed at the company, though Reddit’s terms of service strictly forbid it.
Perhaps, perhaps not – neither party has made a formal announcement, which makes Reddit users a little upset.
Of course, Reddit also has gay subscribers. Perhaps we’re an online hangout for people who’ve yet to come out, who make it their mission to find people who are, in one way or another, LGBTQ+, who live openly and may share their opinions. Maybe people will get engaged on the trans community’s subreddit, which has over 340,000 subscribers, or the open discussions regarding trans issues that host there.
Maybe marriage equality will one day be the law of the land.
Maybe Petito’s life is exactly like yours. At least for now.
