Calmes: Happy birthday, Mr. President. Will you run again?
“The thing is, I never thought about it. And it doesn’t scare me. Like most people, I’m in the ‘I’m good. I’m not worried.’ “
When asked whether he’ll run for president again in 2024, Bill Barr responded, “It won’t be a question of if, but when.”
“The thing I’ve found to be fascinating is that no one has the ability to run, and that’s a good thing,” he added. “No one has the ability to be president. I like the way the people can come together and make a decision.”
Barr, who served as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush, has also been tapped to lead the Justice Department in the Trump administration. He would oversee both the civil rights division and the criminal division if confirmed.
The announcement marked his return to the U.S. presidency, having served as attorney general during the Bush administration, as well as a stint as a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
